Did you know that a recent National review has found moderate exercise to be a air better treatment for depression than antidepressants or talking therapies? This does not have to be vigorous exercise, low intensity exercise such as walking is also beneficial. And so is meeting other people and getting out in fresh.
You can combine these and join Dr Cary and some of the Pioneer team at Blaise Castle's weekly Parkrun? No running is needed, see below.......!
Who is this suitable for? Anyone and everyone. Adults, children and dogs (on leads). There are babies in pushchairs and lots of walkers. It is not a race and no-one can come last as there is a volunteer 'tail walker'. There are two 2.5km laps and you can stop whenever you want. This is suitable for those who want to build their fitness but also for those with medical problems that can make exercise daunting; eg health problems, obesity, chronic pain and COPD.
Will I feel welcome? Will I know anyone? Everyone is welcome. At your first event you will be given a FREE Pioneer Park run t-shirt to keep. These have been generously funded by Moments, a charity in memory of Carole Moorlen who was one of our patients. The t-shirts are a distinctive bright blue with Moments' orange butterfly on the back. We also have a huge flag with Pioneer's logo and Moments' butterfly as a meeting point. You shouldn't be able to miss it!
You will be able to identify other Pioneer patients / staff by their blue t-shirt and we'd love you to join us for a cup of tea after the event. We hope everyone will get to know each other and will feel part of something.
