4YP

We are part of the Bristol 4YP (health services for young people) scheme. The scheme is a way for young people aged between 13 and 20 years to get free confidential help and advice on many health issues including sex, relationships and contraception as well as other medical problems like acne, weight and alcohol.

We can offer pregnancy testing, STI testing and condoms.

We are happy to offer you a 4YP appointment – just phone or drop in. We also have lots of leaflets and STI self testing kits just inside the surgery.

For more information on any sexual health topic visit the UNITY sexual health website.

Will you tell anyone of my visit?
You can see a nurse or a doctor alone even if you are under 16. You can be reassured that anything you discuss with members of this practice (doctors, nurses or receptionists) will remain confidential. Even if you are under 16, nothing will be said to anyone – including parents, other family members, care workers or tutors – without your permission. The only reason why we might consider passing on confidential information without your permission, would be to protect you or someone else from serious harm. We would always try to discuss this with you first.
Can I be seen alone?
We are happy to see you alone, or talk on the phone, even if you are under 16. You can bring a friend or relative if you want to. We have female and male doctors available for appointments most days.

We also have a room available if you wish to speak to a receptionist in private
Can I discuss any issues?
Yes we are happy to discuss anything about your health –for example:
  • If you feel ‘down’ all the time
  • If you are bullied at school
  • If you have an embarrassing condition
  • If you have had unprotected sex
  • If you are concerned about your weight
  • If you wish to discuss contraception or think you may be pregnant
Do I have to be registered at the surgery?
We are able to see young people who are not registered at the surgery for sexual health advice, pregnancy testing and contraception.
When are you open?
We are open Monday to Friday from 08:30 until 18:30. We also offer some early morning appointments from 07:30 and some until 19:00 on other days. You can book by phone, or by calling into the surgery and asking the receptionist for a 4YP appointment.
