GP Online Services - The new NHS App

What is it? Put simply its a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week means of contacting your GP surgery and accessing your medical record.

There are many benefits to using our online services;
  • Book, change or cancel an appointment
  • View and order medications
  • See my test results
  • See my hospital letters
  • View a summary of my health record
  • Share my medical record
  • Change my nominated pharmacy

The NHS App

The best way to access NHS services. One of the main advantages is the ease of registration. Using the Government gateway you can register without needing to ask for username and password from us. Using the NHS app you can access NHS services online with a web browser or by downloading the app to your smart device.

The app is heavily integrated into other NHS IT systems. It allows you to search local services, access advert free medical information from the NHS website and much more.

Patient Access

The patient access online access system is still running and is available for you to use if you prefer. It is 3rd party software so we can't turn it off. It doesn't have all the functionality of the NHS app so we are no longer promoting it. We do recommend all our patients to swap over to the NHS App in time if you can.

How much can I do with online access?

Basic access is the default and allows you to manage basic problems such as book appointments, order medications, change pharmacy, contact the surgery.

Full access to your record. All the above plus lots more - view consultation records, results, letters, diagnosis codes etc. This is granted by application. We encourage you to ask for full access. There will be a short delay in processing a full access request. Why? A minority of records contain sensitive information (e.g. relating to third parties) that need to be removed before the record is released (e.g. carer contact numbers, child protection forms etc). We have a legal obligation to remove these and it is a manual process needing allocated clinician time.

Tell me more.....

The NHS.uk website has lots more information if you wish to read further. Rather than re-print it all here we encourage you to have a look yourself.

We ask you to read Pioneer's guide to What You Need To Know
before you take up full access to your record. This covers the important bits to bear in mind. Please also find here links to a few of the more useful NHS guides to patient access:
