A repeat prescription refers to a medication prescription that allows you to obtain the same medication on multiple occasions without needing to see your GP or prescriber each time.
All repeat prescriptions will need to be requested, they are not automatically generated.
In May 2023 we launched a centralised Prescribing Hub which is supported by our Pharmacy Team at Northern Arc PCN and serves our three sites at Pioneer Medical Group (Bradgate Surgery, Avonmouth Medical Centre, and Ridingleaze Health Hub - this is where they are based), as well as Shirehampton Group Practice.
The Prescribing Hub team consists of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and prescribing clerks, and its main purpose is to bring a simplified approach to your medication needs by providing a safe, prompt, and efficient service.
We aim to process all prescription requests within 48-72hours (this does not include weekends or Bank Holidays).
How can I request my repeat prescription?
NHS App* This is one of our preferred methods and ensures we can process your prescription in a timely manner. You can download to your mobile phone for free. Once you’ve verified your identity and after three days, you can see your repeat medication list and request a prescription by clicking on it. With NHS App you will also have access to your prescription’s barcode which makes it easier to take to a different pharmacy in case of supply disruption.
Patient Access App* You can also download this app to your mobile phone for free. You will have to bring a photo ID to reception before you can use it. After this, requesting medication will be very easy too.
*With any of these above options you will be able to see when your prescriptions have been sent to the pharmacy, or any reasons your GP may have given to reject your request. There are fewer chances of error and you can see their status at any given time (requested, sent to the pharmacy, etc)
By using our online contact tool. Select ‘admin query’, then ‘repeat prescription’. You can then type the name of the medications you require.
Alternative methods include: - From your local pharmacy - Via email to [email protected]. Please make sure to include your full name, date of birth, and the name of each medication you’d like to request
Please note, in exceptional circumstances we will accept paper requests from vulnerable patients who would otherwise struggle to request medication electronically. We don’t recommend this way, as this is not a robust enough system, and becomes highly inefficient if many patients use it. Also, we don’t have the means to audit these requests, which means they might get overlooked. If you can place a request via any other method, you are helping us as well as these patients who don’t have a choice. Thank you.
